As a family, we have lived in the East Bay since 1989. We have been embedded in Jewish life from the beginning & are deeply committed to seeing our community continue to thrive for the next generation.

And we are not alone. The East Bay is home to 37% of Bay Area Jews. Approximately 8,500 households, 27% of our population, have families with young children ages 0-5. This is the highest in the Bay Area. But given the large geographic size of the East Bay & increasing traffic, there is no central community location.

Our population is extremely diverse. It’s estimated that 25% of Jewish households include a person of color, 10% of our population identify as LGB+ and 55% of marriages are interfaith*. As we look to the future, we see this as our greatest asset. However, this diversity in population is not yet reflected in Jewish programming. Today only 20% of our population shows up for Jewish programs. The time is now to evolve our community to be inclusive of and meaningful for our diverse members.

We have a rich tapestry of Jewish experiences to choose from and are so proud of the innovation that’s already happening to make Judaism relevant and meaningful. We want to lift up this great existing work and spur innovation to address unmet needs & ensure a healthy organizational ecosystem.
